Clarification – This method allows effective elimination of TSS by flocculation & coagulation of output water from primary treatment.
Multi-media filtration – Fine filtration of input water from the equalization tank after clarification. Multimedia filtration uses granulated sand in one tank & activated carbon in the other, this leads to significant elimination of TSS, organic content & odour from raw water.
Water Softening – Eliminates TH content related to Calcium & Magnesium ions.
De-mineralisation – Eliminates dissolved solid content related to cations & anions by subjecting the filtered water to a resin bed for adsorption.
Membrane Separation – High pressure filtration via a semi-permeable membrane allows rejection of dissolved salts at an extremely high percentage, this results in ultra-pure water which can be used as an ingredient in food production process.

After the ultra-pure water for food or beverage production process has been utilized, the water composition changes drastically & now at this stage this wastewater is extremely contaminated & hence unfit for disposal into nature.
Our products for wastewater treatment for the food production industry include Pre-treatment: PSF + ACF + Softener – this prefiltration system is essential to further purify the wastewater that is generated & collected in the equalisation tank post the ETP.
Critical Filtration: Ultrafiltration – UF system allows for significant elimination of TSS in the wastewater line generated from clarification tank & pre-filtration system. UF is an essential step for pre-filtration to the membrane separation system.
Membrane separation: 2 step Reverse Osmosis – Reverse osmosis is now the most common method for desalination or raw water after appropriate prefiltration. However, RO systems play a huge role in industrial wastewater treatment applications. The permeate from the Ultra-filter is fed to the 1st RO system of a higher operational capacity, this significantly concentrates the dissolved solid contents into the reject stream while the permeate can be used as make up water for cooling towers & boiler systems. The reject line from the 1st RO system is fed into the 2nd RO system which further concentrates the dissolved solids into the reject stream, at this point the reject stream consists of less than 7% of the total wastewater generated by the ETP system and is highly concentrated to the point where it cannot be subjected to further physio-chemical treatment & so it is lead to the industrial effluent evaporation technology such as Multi Effect Evaporator (MEE) or Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) for final evaporation & sludge formation, and that is how Ahura Aqua can help Food & beverage process & manufacturing units to completely become a Zero Liquid Discharge manufacturing units.

Membrane separation:
Clarification of product: The issue – Polysaccharides, suspended colloidal protein, tannins etc create a hazy or uneven cloudiness in the natural fruit juice, this phenomenon is called turbidity. This turbidity does not have any impact on the smell or taste of the juice but for consumers it is a genuine cause of distress because of the hazy appearance, so manufacturer try to avoid it.
Traditional solution – Enzymatic treatment – cooling of the product – flocculation – decantation & filtration. This entire process is labour intensive & time consuming with very little control over the end result & also involves addition & consequential removal of additives.
The solution – Micro-filtration & Ultra-filtration:
- Comparatively a very easy & automated process with little to no human intervention required.
- Higher yield per batch.
- Elimination of finer elements such as gelatine & silica which are otherwise difficult to eliminate.
- Retention of natural aroma, nutritional value.
- Absolutely no requirement of any additives.
Concentration of juice
Traditional method – Thermo-evaporation unit heats up the natural fruit juice upto 90 degrees centigrade. After which the concentrate is cooled.
The issue – Massive energy costs; Foam generation & the hassle to separate it from the concentrate product; Considerable loss of aromas & antioxidant compounds found naturally in the juices; Infusion of odour; Decolouration due to maillard reaction.
The solution –Nanofiltration & Reverse Osmosis.
